Members of the EUROPUMP Executive Council


Martijn van den Born, President*

After graduating in automotive engineering and management at IVA Driebergen Business School and completing a marketing course at the City of London Polytechnic in 1987, Martijn van den Born started his career as a trainee at the family business in pump and filter production. In 1990 Martijn became Commercial Director. In 1994, the first generation Arnold van den Born retired and Martijn became CEO. In 1996 he acquired the company by management buyout. Over the past 20 years, the company has strongly developed from a general manufacturer of plastic products into a specialised designer and producer of thermoplastic centrifugal pump and process filters. ARBO Pumps and Filters has been a member of the Holland Pump Group over the past 10 years and Martijn became President in October 2013.


Dr Soenke Brodersen, 1st Vice-President*

Sönke Brodersen is Global Executive Officer Technology of the KSB Group. After he joined KSB in 1990, he filled several positions at different sites. Brodersen studied at the Technical University of Braunschweig where he also obtained his PhD in the field of mechanical engineering. Following this, he became faculty associate at Arizona State University and was granted a fellowship by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Since 2009 Brodersen is Chairman of the German VDMA Pump Manufacturer Association. Between 2011 an 2013 he also has been President of EUROPUMP, the Association of European Pump Manufacturers.


Jan Capka, 2nd Vice-President*

After graduating from university in 1996 with a degree in law, Jan Capka began work as a corporate lawyer in SIGMA group. Practising as candidate attorney for one year, he then returned to SIGMA as Head of the Legal Department. In 2001 he was appointed to the Board of Directors of SIGMA GROUP a.s.. Currently Jan Capka is a Member of the Board responsible for legal and PR matters and acquisitions. He is also a representative of the Czech Pump Manufacturer´s Association in EUROPUMP.   



 Kutlu KaraveliogluKutlu Karavelioglu, Past President*

Born in 1961, in Ankara; educated at TED Ankara College and METU (Middle East Technical University); obtained his Master of Science degree in CAD (computer-aided design) while working at Power Plants Department of Turkish Electricity Authority. He completed his military service obligation as a lieutenant in the Turkish Navy.
Since 1988, as a partner and professional, he holds executive management duties at the Aydıner Group, mainly in the boards of Samsun Machinery Industries and Layne Bowler companies, both having 50 years of history in Turkey in pump, valve and pipe production.


Svend Aage Kaae, Council Member*

Having graduated from Odense Engineering School in construction and production in 1980, Svend Aage Kaae joined Grundfos A/S and worked with motor production processes and equipment directly and as manager. Later he changed to the pump area where he worked as project manager for some years until in 1998 he became responsible for Development and Engineering for HVAC pumps. Since 2008 he has been responsible for maintaining the main part of the running portfolio of Grundfos products.  All together Svend Aage Kaae has more than 10 years’ experience in motor production and almost 25 years’ experience in the pump business.


Carlo Banfi, Council Member*

A graduate in mechanical engineering, Carlo Banfi has over 30 years' experience in the pump industry. He has held a range of managerial responsibilities in international pump groups such as Flowserve Worthington, Rutschi, Gruppo Aturia and Sterling SIHI. Currently he is the Managing Director of Sterling Fluid Systems (Italy) S.r.l., a Flowserve Corporation company. He is President of ASSOPOMPE, the Italian Pump Manufacturers Association, and was President of  EUROPUMP from 2013 to 2015.


Ken Hall, Honorary Council Member*

Ken Hall is a qualified Engineer and business manager who has been involved in the pump industry for over 40 years. He is Managing Director of Calpeda’s UK operations, and has served as President for both the British Pump Manufactures Association (BPMA) and Europump having been the BPMA representative on Europump council for 15 years. He was one of the founders of the European pump industries energy strategy ‘Ecopump’ promoting the strategy since its conception at events throughout the world. Ken stepped down from his BPMA and Europump responsibilities in 2017 when he was made an Honorary Europump Council Member. Ken now looks after Calpeda S.p.A. operations in sub-Saharan Africa.


kimmo IssakainenKimmo Issakainen, Council Member*

Kimmo Issakainen has a degree in engineering. He has spent most of his career at Kolmeks Oy where he started as area sales manager, occupied successively the positions of sales director, deputy managing director and managing director, and is now the managing director for Kolmeks Ltd. Mr Issakainen is also a board member of different associations. He is married and has one daughter. He is also an accomplished sportsman.


Olivier Lamarie, Council Member*

After a degree in Master of Business Administration from Toulouse Business School in 2001, Olivier Lamarie started his career as a Sales Engineer in a digital marketing company in Paris. In 2006, Olivier joined Xylem (former ITT Corporation) in Montecchio Maggiore – Italy as Area Sales Manager for the French speaking countries in Africa. After several internal promotions, Olivier Lamarie moved in 2013 to the newly established headquarter of Xylem Europe in Schaffhausen – Switzerland as Director of the Business Unit Industry and Agriculture for the EMEA region for Applied Water System. In 2015, Olivier took the role of Managing Director of Xylem Water Solution Austria with the responsibility of the Austrian domestic market and of the Export business in Eastern Europe.

Olivier Hancotte, Council Member*

After being graduated Industrial engineer in electronics in 1998 and an Executive MBA from Solvay Business School in 2008, Olivier Hancotte started his career as R&D engineer developing measuring equipment for the steel industry. In 2002 he joined Magotteaux as R&D engineer manufacturing industrial equipment for the mining and cement industries and became operations manager. In 2009 Olivier joined Ensival Moret and the pump business as plant manager of Pompes Deplechin in Tournai (Belgium) and in 2013 became head of the worldwide after sales business before joining Ensival Moret Belgium in Thimister Clermont as plant manager and became Managing Director and General Manager afterward in 2017. Olivier is member of the Europump council since May 2018, chairs the Belgian Pump group from Agoria and leads the Europump Blueprint work group.


Pierre Plateus, Honorary Council Member*

Pierre Plateus qualified as an engineer in electro-mechanics in 1965 from the University of Liège in Belgium. He also completed a complementary course in electronics at the TH Delft in The Netherlands. He was an Assistant at the Von Karmann institute for Fluid Mechanics in 1967, then joined ENSIVAL where became Head of the research department, Head of the engineering department, Commercial Manager and finally Export Commercial Manager of the Ensival-Moret pump company. He was President of the Europump Standards Commission for 10 years, a member of the Europump Executive Council until 2016, and is now an honorary member of the Executive Council. After retiring from Ensival-Moret, he created a small company known as PLATEUS – CONSULT which specialises in the fields of mechanics & hydraulics, principally for rotating machines.


Igor Tverdokhleb, Council Member*

Igor Tverdokhleb, a highly qualified Engineer and Supervisor with over 25 years experience in the pump industry, obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1986 (Sumy State University). In 1997 he obtained a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and then occupied positions from Research Assistant to Associate Professor at the University. He pursued his career as the CEO of a pump Research and Design Institute (VNIIAEN) which specialised in developing large pumps for the nuclear and oil industries. He then worked as Deputy Chief Engineer at one of the largest CIS heavy machinery enterprises. In 2004 he joined the HMS Group as Technical Director; currently he is R&D Director and first Deputy to the Head of the Pump Division. He is the author of numerous research papers and articles on pumps and has supervised several pump specialists who subsequently obtained their PhD. In 2013 he became President of the Russian Pump Manufacturing Association (RPMA).  He is married with two children.


Frank EnnenbachFrank Ennenbach, Chairman, Standards Commission+

Frank Ennenbach, Dipl. Ing. Chemical Process Engineering, since 1982 active within the pump industry. He has worked for ABS for 29 years and is currently its Director of Product Safety and Regulation. He serves as member and chairperson of several DIN, CEN and ISO working groups and since 2002 is chairperson of the Europump Standards Commission. As such he is in charge of the liaison to the European Commission on all matters of the Energy related Products Directive

John Veness Europump John Veness, Chairman, Marketing Commission+

John Veness has worked within the Pump Industry for over 40 years. He is the Managing Director of ITT Industrial Process – Goulds Pumps UK Operations. He has worked as a consultant to improve pump system energy consumption to assist in meeting carbon footprint reduction goals. He worked with the British Pump Manufacturers Association as an energy consultant to help develop and deliver the BPMA’s energy strategy which responded to the demands of the UK Governments Market Transformation Programme.  Prior to this he worked for HMD Sealless Pumps Ltd in positions as Managing Director, Director of Aftermarket and Technical Director. He is past President of the British Pump Manufacturers Association, Past Chair of the BPMA Technical Committee and has held the Chair of the BSI MCE6 and ISO TC115 Pump Standards committees


 Vanni Vignoli, Chairman, SME Commission+Vanni Vignoli

After graduating from Bologna University as a Management Engineer in 1997, Vanni Vignoli started working in a company supplying services and consultancy to enterprises. After some time, he moved to Caprari where he has been working for 15 years. He started as an engineer in the R&D Department and then became Research and Development Engineering and Technical Data Manager. He subsequently became the Marketing Manager and is now the Corporate Marketing Manager. He has been a member of the Assopompe and Europump Marketing Commissions for 7 years. He is married with two children and is a keen sportsman.


Pierre Lucas, Secretary General+

Pierre Lucas is Senior Adviser at Orgalime, the European mechanical, electrical, electronic and metalworking industries association. At Orgalime, Pierre is in charge of industrial policy and digitisation issues, of managing as Secretary General Europump and Pneurop (European Association of Manufacturers of Compressors, Vacuum Pumps, Pneumatic Tools and Air & Condensate Treatment Equipment), and of supporting as Operations Director T&D Europe (European Association of the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Equipment and Services Industry). A French native, Pierre has worked in Brussels since 1990 representing in various functions the engineering and electronic industries, notably at Orgalime (electrical engineering, energy technologies), at SEMI Europe (microelectronics) and at Kellen Europe (software). He holds a Degree in Political Sciences from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris, a Certificate in Political Sciences of the Free University of Berlin, and a Master in European Policy Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges.
